UPDATE: Northeast Corridor rail service resumed limited service on Monday afternoon, May 2, in both directions between Rahway and Trenton. Eastbound trains will bypass New Brunswick, Edison and Metuchen. Customers should transfer at Metropark for westbound service to these stations, NJ Transit announced.
The crash occurred about 5 a.m. on Talmadge Road, closing the road from Route 27 to Carter Drive, Edison police said.
All four Northeast Corridor tracks were closed in both directions due to a downed pole and Amtrak overhead wires, officials said.
Extensive repairs were expected to cause delays throughout the day, officials said.
The North Jersey Coast Line also was affected with up to 45-minutes delays in both directions.
Listen for announcements on limited service operating as available between Rahway and Penn Station New York, NJ Transit said Customers may also use North Jersey Coast Line service between Rahway and Penn Station.
NJ Transit and private carrier buses are honoring train tickets. Train tickets also will be accepted on PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street in Manhattan, NJ Transit said.
